PROJECT: HISPANIC-AMERICAN QUOTATIONS

NEW PUBLICATION 1996

Submissions deadline: December 15

Affinity Communications has approached me on behalf of Dutton publishers to compile a 250 page volume of quotations from the wealth of wisdom in the Hispanic/Latino community in the U.S.--wit, wisdom, history, the whole array of the arts, intellect, sciences and family, community, sports--in short, life.

With the rising wealth of Hispanic-American literature, an increasing presence of Latino local and national leadership in business, politics, education, there is still no useful equivalent to Bartlett's Familiar Quotations for students, educators, community organizers, speakers and researchers who wish to find gems from an author or a political or societal leader.

We have a sudden, brief opportunity to compile this valuable resource: I must provide the first quarter of the proposed text this Friday, Nov. 17; the first half by December 1, the completed 250 pages by December 28. This means well over 1200 quotes!

HERE'S WHERE YOU COME IN:

If you have quotations (or clip files you might quickly glean) saved up,

or know someone who has quotations

or know a good resource for quotations

Please send them to me via my Internet address:

Thank you in advance, and PLEASE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:

* The exact wording of the quotation,

* identification of the speaker such as: author, actress, bricklayer, homemaker, educator, etc.

* where and when the quote was published/printed/recorded

Submissions from every area are welcome: community, science, art, history, politics, economics, religion, sports, humor, literature, theater, film, activism, environment, family, marriage, high tech, you name it: words that will educate, amuse, inspire, enlighten, remind, strengthen and continue culture and tradition.

I haven't final influence over the credits that will appear in the book; however, I will provide the publisher with an acknowledgments' page that lists the institutions and individuals who provide significant assistance as I compile this text.
